Melbourne for Visitors and Casual Cyclists

Own Projects

While running the bike rental service The Humble Vintage, Matthew found himself writing tips and drawing routes on maps of many a visitor.

Noticing the hideous designs, paid-for ‘reviews’ of the most average businesses in town and the generally unintelligent tone that is oh so common in maps given to visitors, he decided to produce his own.

Melbourne for Visitors and Casual Cyclists was the result. A hand drawn map of Melbourne on one side, a newspaper style city guide on the other. Featuring unique riding routes, reviews of new bars, cafes, retail spaces and tips for the casual rider, the quarterly map sold in bookstores and was given free to customers of The Humble Vintage.

The map was loved by all, earning The Humble Vintage a spot in Wallpaper* magazine’s “20 Reasons to Visit Melbourne”, and led to a book deal through Hardie Grant publishing, The Casual Cyclist’s Guide.
