The Humble Vintage

Own Projects

Started by Matthew in 2009, The Humble Vintage is a bike hire with a difference. A service that is about transportation and not tourism.

Born from the simple idea of offering a fleet of bikes that don’t look like rentals, the service has 25 unique and unbranded bikes that allows users feel like they have “their own bike” for the duration of their stay.

Operating without a retail store, bikes are located in select pick up points such as cafes, bike shops and markets around the city.

Due to its original concept and smart execution, the project generated a wealth of media attention in Australia and internationally, including coverage in Monocle, Wallpaper*, The Age, Qantas and Jetstar magazines.

To complement the rental service, Matthew also produced the seasonal map and guide publication Melbourne for Visitors and Casual CyclistsThe popularity of these maps led to the offer to produce the book The Casual Cyclist’s Guide in 2011.
